Economists take issue with RSPT

Brian Toohey at the Australian Financial Review provides a good overview of what credible economists say about the super tax.
Vince Fitzgerald, Chris Richardson, Ed Shann and Geoff Carmody are among former Treasury economists who are critical of the resource super profits tax. Their concerns illustrate how the tax is not a clearly accepted feature of mainstream economics, even though it is vigorously endorsed by Treasury head Ken Henry. A similar split occurs among a wider range of economists.
Some, such as Ross Garnaut, support the general idea of applying resource rent tax but don’t like the design of the version represented by the RSPT. See Toohey's full article here
